Look What We Are Learning In Kindergarten...
For the first few weeks of school we will be getting our feet wet in the classroom. I will be introducing new centers daily and conducting observational and paper pencil assessments. Another big part of the beginning of the year is getting to know our friends and what is expected of us as kindergarten students. After yesterday it is very clear to me that MANY of the students know their letters and numbers. Many students were able to read simple words and count well beyond 20. YAY! Many of my assessments during the month of September will focus on these very skills. However, students will also be asked to perform end of the year kindergarten tasks. This seems counter-intuitive, but this helps us to see where there are gaps and it helps us to meet the diverse needs of students in the classroom.
Because the month of September is mostly assessments, MANY of my volunteer opportunities will begin in October I have already spoke with some of you about the ways that you can help out at Open House, and I will be in touch in the next week or so. Please do not hesitate to contact me if there is a job you would like to do.
Be aware that your child will come home tired. Some of that is due to being in school and working hard each day after a relaxing summer, some of it is anxiety and stress over a new situation, but mostly it is because we are VERY busy all day long. We are up and on the go constantly. Because of this, it is necessary for students to get a good nights sleep and eat a healthy breakfast in the morning.
Thanks to each of you for entrusting me with your children for a large portion of the day. This will be a wonderful year of new experiences and incredible growth that will pass quicker than we can imagine! Here's to a WONDERFUL year!
