Kopper's Crew Progress Report
Hello Families!
Well, week two is in the books and we are plugging right along. We have been learning about the letters A-E this week. We learned to recognize them and to know what sound they make. Some students are still working on mastering these skills. Help your child find examples at home and pronounce the word for them. Have them notice the sound the letter makes. In math we are working on counting to 5 and counting groups of 5 objects. We have been working on strategies we can use to count objects so that we don't skip any. We just started math on Thursday and will continue working on number concepts through the coming weeks. Just an FYI about my schedule: I scoot out of here on Tuesdays and Thursdays to pick up my daughter from daycare so I am not available on those days to meet or talk. I go out of my way on those days to check email from home in the evenings after Fe goes to bed. We are working on several social skills in class. We are working hard at being good listeners and following directions. We are so excited about meeting and making new friends that sometimes these things are difficult. I run a very structured classroom and have high expectations of my students. I also like to have fun while we are learning. Once we get into the swing of things (after about 6 weeks) things will run more smoothly and hopefully students will not be so tired when they get home. I am trying to ease students into the workload of kindergarten. It is a TON of things they are expected to be able to do. As the weeks go on there will be more academic tasks and expectations added. We have only begun math and literacy and we will eventually add in science and social studies in the coming weeks and months. I am always available if you have a question or concern. I try to be diligent with answering email.
Enjoy your weekend!
Warmly,
Danielle Kopper
